The hosting of the 2nd US-DPRK summit is a typical example of Vietnam's dynamic diplomatic policies and reflects the Party and State's diplomacy.

As soon as getting on his Air Force One aircraft, US President Donald Trump posted a status with a video clip attached on his Twitter account to express his gratitude to Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and Vietnamese people. I believe it is not just a courtesy statement of the head of the United States of America.

The 2nd summit between the United States of America and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) ended without any joint agreement as expected. However, meetings between President Donald Trump and Chairman Kim Jong-un narrowed the gap and were opportunities for the two sides to better understand each other's views on many problems related to the process of denuclearization on the Korean peninsula.

The summit also brought about hope of future efforts of the US and DPRK to achieve this goal.

As the host, Vietnam made important contributions to the summit.

Looking back on the past stage, especially the days US and DPRK high-ranking delegations were present in Ha Noi, it can be said that Vietnam did it best to contribute to the success of the event awaited by the whole world.

A joyful, exciting, and responsible atmosphere mixed with pride was easily felt in every Vietnamese citizen.

The 2nd US-DPRK summit was an international-scale event. Nonetheless, both sides kept information confidential to the last minute and, in fact, Vietnam only had 7 – 10 days for preparation.

However, we were not passive but admirably professional. At this point, it can be said that the international event was successfully organized.

As a Vietnamese, how could I not be proud when the dear word 'Vietnam' resounded all over the world? The selection of Ha Noi, Vietnam as the venue of the US-DPRK summit multiplied peaceful messages of the City for Peace.

More significantly, the 2nd US-DPRK summit was held in Ha Noi right on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)'s recognition of our capital as a City for Peace. This is another clear proof that affirms the increasing prestige, role, and position of Vietnam in the international arena.

The hosting of the 2nd US-DPRK summit is a typical example of Vietnam's dynamic diplomatic policies and reflects the Party and State's diplomacy: multilateralism, diversification, and willingness to be friends with other countries and a responsible member of the international community with increasingly positive contributions to international issues for peace and development.

World scholars believe that strong impressions of a secure, peaceful, hospitable, and peace-loving Vietnam contributed to making US President Donald Trump and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong-un choose the 'S-shaped country' as the destination of the 2nd summit.

According to expert Richard Cronin, an advisor on Asia-Pacific affairs at the Stimson Center, the hosting of the 2nd US-DPRK summit was also an opportunity for Vietnam to show its economic development potential as well as openness to the world.

This not only was a chance for Vietnam to promote images of the country in general and Ha Noi capital in particular but also highlighted Vietnam's economic development progress as well as influence in the region.

Vietnam will be the rotating Chairman of ASEAN in 2020 and is trying to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

All these factors will enhance Vietnam's stature and position in the international arena. The international community is also increasingly recognizing significant contributions of Vietnam to peace, national independence, democracy, and social progress in the world.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to prove to be a center connecting global values and a place to promote regional and international initiatives for peace, stability, and development.

And certainly, a professional, friendly, peace-loving Vietnam ready to make every effort for world peace will remain in the eyes of international friends after the summit.
