Hai Duong should focus on improving the value of the brand names of staple and traditional products with great export potential.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh disseminates issues related to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership
The Hai Duong provincial Steering Board for International Economic Integration (IEI) held a meeting on August 17 to disseminate IEI regulations to representatives of relevant departments, boards, and branches and more than 80 representatives of enterprises in the province.
Mr. Nguyen Duong Thai, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, Head of the provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies, and Mr. Nguyen Anh Cuong, Member of the provincial Party Committee's Standing Board, Standing Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, attended the event.
The participants heard Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government's International Economic and Trade Negotiation Team, introduce the process and outcome of negotiating the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and differences between the CPTPP and the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).
Especially, the Hai Duong-based enterprises were told analyses on opportunities as well as challenges upon Vietnam's participation in the non-US CPTPP; opportunities to exploit economic benefits in some markets other than the US like Mexico, Japan, and Canada; what businesses should do to deal with trade barriers; and potential markets Hai Duong-based enterprises can exploit in CPTPP member countries.
The participants were also guided by representatives of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) on exercising commitments on the origin of goods and trade remedies in free trade agreements (FTAs); the process of granting certificates of origin (C/O); etc.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh talked with Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duong Thai about the situation of IEI in the province.
Mr. Nguyen Duong Thai desired that the Ministry of Industry and Trade would assist Hai Duong in accessing the incentives of valid FTAs and create conditions for Hai Duong goods to be exported to many countries around the world.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh offered some measures and key tasks for IEI that Hai Duong should quickly implement, focusing on the improvement of the value of the brand names of the province's staple and traditional products with great export potential such as farm produce, foodstuffs, garments, handicrafts, etc.
