Kim Thanh has first heritage tree

Through consultation of local elders, Party committees, authorities, and people of Kim Tan commune determine that the tree is about 300 years old.

A bo-tree in front of the Tutelary God shrine in area 5, Hai Ninh hamlet, Kim Tan commune, Kim Thanh district, has been recognized as the first heritage tree of the district by the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council under the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment.

Originating in Bodh Gaya, India, the tree is growing well without pests or diseases. Through consultation of local elders, Party committees, authorities, and people of Kim Tan commune determine that the tree is about 300 years old.

According to a survey record, the bo-tree has one main slightly-slanted trunk and measures 6.5 m in circumference and 2 m in diameter at a height of 1.3 m from the ground.

The tree is around 20 – 25 m high with a raspberry-shaped green canopy about 250 m2 in area. Its sap is milky and fragrant.

The tree fruits in May and October. Ripe fruits are sweet and edible.
