The Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee, on January 11 morning solemnly held a memorial service for martyrs who laid down their lives in 1954 in An Tho hamlet, Nguyen Giap commune, Tu Ky district.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hien, Member of the Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Major General Do Phuong Thuan, Deputy Commander of Military Zone 3; and Mr. Nguyen Duong Thai, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Head of the Provincial Delegation of National Assembly Deputies, attended the event.

At 8.30 am, the service began in a solemn atmosphere.

On behalf of leaders of the province, Mr. Luong Van Cau, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial 1237 Steering Board, delivered a funeral oration in commemoration of the heroic martyrs, insisting that their sacrifice would be an everlasting epic about a traumatic but proud period of the nation.

In the past nearly five months, functional forces of the province, especially the Provincial 1237 Steering Board, conducted surveys and verification, met witnesses, and combined results with historical materials to look for and gather the remains of nine martyrs killed in a mine blast in the hamlet in 1954. They were Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, and Thanh Hoa soldiers and guerrillas confined by French colonialists.

After the memorial service, the martyrs' remains were laid to rest at the martyrs' cemetery of Nguyen Giap commune in respect and deep gratitude of the delegates and people.
