On 23rd February morning, the provincial Steering Committee for Covid-19 Disease Control held an online meeting with localities on the implementation of SARS-CoV-2 testing to realize the dual goal of effective epidemic prevention and socio-economic development promotion in the province.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Luong Van Cau, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee affirmed that testing is very important. Hai Duong is now stepping into the second stage of the fight against Covid-19. The 1st stage was from the detection of the first case in Chi Linh. In this stage, we focused mainly on putting out the epidemic, the testing was deployed for the purpose of responding to the situations arisen only. With this approach, we were often passive without fully detecting the risk of infection in the community.

In this second stage, we are determined to shift our purpose from testing to meet the requirements of putting out the epidemic into actively testing in a large scale to screen for risks. In addition to compulsory testing for people in high-risk areas, this stage also extends to other areas.

In order to effectively implement the large scale testing, the Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee asked the local authorities to have a specific plan and organize the specimen taking. The Director of the provincial Department of Health is the Commander in Chief of the specimen taking campaign. In addition to performing tests, the provincial Center for Disease Control is required directly guide and check the specimen taking conditions of all the localities.

Based on the actual situation and consultation with the localities, Mr. Luong Van Cau- Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee requested Hai Duong city, Kinh Mon town to implement the specimen taking on 24th February; Chi Linh city and Cam Giang district and Nam Sach district 25th February; Binh Giang district and Thanh Ha district on 26th February, Tu Ky district on 28th February; 3 districts of Gia Loc, Thanh Mien and Ninh Giang on 1st March. Particularly for Kim Thanh district, the Steering Committee will agree on a date later.

According to the plan, the whole province is expected to take a total of 160,000-180,000 specimens, testing with Realtime-PCR techniques aims to assess risks to meet the fastest and most effective epidemic prevention requirements; assess safe areas for socio-economic development promotion in the province.

The provincial Center for Disease Control will coordinate with the medical units performing the SARS-CoV-2 screening to implement the tests and to notify the results within 24 hours.
