With abundant mineral resources, Kinh Mon provincial town is attracting more and more businesses, including big ones, coming to invest in production and business, creating a considerable industrial region.
Many large businesses gather
Thanks to plentiful sources of kaolin, limestone, construction stones, clay, etc., over the past years, a large cement production center has been formed in Kinh Mon provincial town with brand names having affirmed their footholds in the market like Hoang Thach, Phuc Son, and Thanh Cong.
As a locality with many large rivers very close to Hai Phong and Quang Ninh sea ports, Kinh Mon has numerous favorable conditions for heavy industries to develop.
In 2008, Hoa Phat Group built a cast iron and steel production complex in Hiep Son ward. "Building a factory here is very convenient for our company to transport raw materials. Furthermore, the locality has profuse human resources with high technical qualifications, suitable to our company's production characteristics," said Do Duc Don, Deputy Director of Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel JSC.
To date, Hoa Phat Group has invested tens of thousand billion dong in the complex and manufactured more than 2 million tons of steel each year.
In the first six months of the year, despite the impact of Covid-19, the enterprise produced more than 1.1 million tons of rough steel, 803,503 tons of finished steel products, etc.
Not only cement, cast iron, and steel, with Jaks Hai Duong Power Co., Ltd.'s investment of more than USD2 billion in the construction of Hai Duong BOT Thermal Power Plant consisting of two sets of 1,200 MW generators, Kinh Mon will definitely become a major electricity generating locality of the province in the near future.
To date, the construction and installation of machinery and equipment have basically been completed. The first set has been given a trial run since the beginning of July and is expected to generate commercial electricity in early October.
Large enterprises with diverse production industries in Kinh Mon have also led to the development of many other production industries.
According to the provincial town Economic Division, there are 967 enterprises and 3,079 individual business households in the locality.
Industry is accounting for up to 87.6% of the provincial town's economic structure. The production value of industry and construction in 2020 is estimated at VND44,776 billion, 1.76 times higher than 2015.
The provincial town has six industrial clusters with the average occupancy rate exceeding 85% of the total area of over 240 ha, in which 100% of Hiep Son and Phu Thu industrial clusters have been filled.
To date, the area of land devoted to industrial production and services in the provincial town has reached nearly 1,400 ha.
Each year, Kinh Mon-based businesses contribute about VND3,000 billion to the State budget.
To further promote the development of Kinh Mon's economy and society in general and industry in particular, in recent years, the provincial authorities have paid special attention to investment in developing the local traffic infrastructure system.
Most recently, the opening of May bridge to traffic has created new development opportunities for western wards and communes of the provincial town.
Along with that, projects to build nearly 13 km of road 389B to connect national highway 17B with road 389, Trieu bridge, Dinh bridge, etc. are being accelerated by construction units for early completion and operation.
Upon completion, these projects will create new motivation for Kinh Mon to lure investors in industrial production development.
"The provincial town authorities have planned three more industrial clusters, namely That Hung, Bach Dang, and Quang Trung, with an area of more than 200 ha. In addition, planning for a 75 ha Thai Thinh – Hien Thanh industrial cluster and a number of inland wharves is being considered to serve cargo loading," said Nguyen Xuan Ha, Head of the provincial town Economic Division.
Kinh Mon has been trying to receive projects with little risk of causing environmental pollution.
The provincial town authorities attach special importance to attracting hi-tech and ecofriendly industries, developing industry in rural areas in association with urbanization and sustainable development, well implementing preferential and support mechanisms and policies to lure investment, and encouraging the development and application of farm produce processing and preservation technology.
With new directions and potential to be exploited, in the coming years, industrial production of Kinh Mon will definitely develop more strongly, and the provincial town will deserve to be the industrial center of the province.
